THE ROBINSON FILM CENTER ANNOUNCES THE APPOINTMENT OF NEAL LEMLEIN AS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

The Board of Directors of The Robinson Film Center in Shreveport has announced the selection of Neal Lemlein of Boulder, Colo. to serve as Executive Director of the not-for-profit arts organization. Lemlein’s appointment concludes a national search, which has been underway since the departure of previous Executive Director Pierre Rubben in December 2009. Lemlein officially assumes responsibilities on July 20, but is currently actively collaborating with Interim Executive Director Lisa Babin during this transitional period.“As a great admirer of The Robinson Film Center, I am particularly excited about how its impact, as a dynamic cultural center celebrating film as a vital art form, will continue to grow locally, regionally, and nationally,” Lemlein said. “I am delighted to be joining the team to help further that process.”
Neal Lemlein has had an extensive film marketing and management career and has worked on over 125 media-marketing campaigns. He began as an executive with the advertising agency Doyle Dane Bernbach, where his first project was Star Wars. As Senior Vice President of Marketing and Media Services at Twentieth Century Fox he was responsible for the development and execution of all of the studio’s theatrical media-marketing campaigns. Signed by advertising agency D’arcy Masius Benton and Bowles to found the agency’s entertainment division, he brought Paramount Pictures and NBC Television into the fold, generating billings of more than $100 million in less than 12 months. As Executive Vice President of Universal Studios Hollywood, he led six departments and a team of 75 employees in revitalizing the theme park’s image, growing its market share in the face of fierce competition. In the cable television field, he headed production and programming, as well as marketing, for the New York Times’ innovative “Popcorn Channel” joint venture.
Most recently, he has served as President of Around the Bend Media, Inc., a firm working to bring exceptional film, television, and new media properties to the screen. Neal has been a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences since 1989. He has recently published his first book, Pilot Your Career…18 Strategies for Career Building and Navigating the Economic Downturn and has served as Adjunct Professor and taught the graduate course “Strategic Campaign Planning” at the University of Southern California's Marshall School of Business. He holds a B.A. from Tulane University and an M.A. from New York University.
The Robinson Film Center is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization whose mission is to provide a venue for independent, international, and classic cinema while serving as a resource for film production and media education. In May 2008, the organization opened a facility in downtown Shreveport that houses two theaters, a full-service bistro and bar, and three versatile multi-use spaces designed to accommodate educational programs, meetings, and special events.
