Bring an RFC filmmaking workshop to your school!
The program is a perfect way to blend an interactive lesson about film production into your classroom. Your class makes its own short film in just 90 minutes! For a better picture of how the class work, watch the video below.
Lesson: The Novel Experience
During one 90-minute classroom session (or two 60-minute sessions), students reading Harper Lee’s “To Kill a Mockingbird” (or an alternate novel or play) learn to adapt one chapter into a short film.
Led by the Robinson Film Center’s media educator, Meghan Hochstetler:
1) students compare and contrast literary and cinematic terms,
2) study how a novel’s story gets adapted into a one‐page screenplay,
3) and film and act in a short film.
Hochstetler edits the footage during class and shows the final results to the students. The Novel Experience is a focused opportunity for your students to compare and contrast film and literature.
